To commemorate International Provenance Research Day, which falls on April 12 2023, The Documentation Centre has prepared an online version of Václav Erben´s study entitled Paintings from Jewish collections at the National Gallery in Prague – Richard Poppers´s Collection.
Richard Popper was a passionate art collector, particularly interested in the works of Dutch, Flemish and Italian Old Masters. The richly illustrated catalogue shows the fate of Popper´s collection, part of which is today kept in the collections of The National Gallery in Prague. The study is based on thorough archival research and we can thus follow not only the story of this particular collection but we can also read through a general survey of the fine arts confiscation mechanisms.
